Florida Keeps Growing
The Census Bureau just released its latest estimates for population, demographics for each state as of July 1, 2003, and Florida ranks high in most of the categories. Florida was the fourth most populous state in 2003 with 17 million and added over 1 million between 2000 and 2003. the state experienced a 7 percent growth rate from 2000 to 2003, which placed it third for the highest growth rate during that period, behind Nevada and Arizona. Florida ranked fourth for the highest number of adult residents 13.1 million and second for the most number of residents 65 and older 2.9 million. The state ranked third for adding the most adults 18+ residents since 2000 that was 759,000; third for adding the highest number of residents 65 and older 90,000; fourth for the highest total of elementary school-age children, 5-13 years, of 2 million; and second for the highest increase in that age group which was 88,000.
